It was a good away win against a Malton 3 team that were hit by the cold/Flu season that we are seeing. It was a 4-1 victory and also marked the return of Michael McHaffie (who played for York RI for years back in the day).
Chris played well at 5 but lost 3-1 against Nick. I didn’t see much of Richards game which he won 3-0.
I played against Sam which I won 3-0 although Sam was struggling with illness so I am not sure thats a fair reflection. Ian also played at the same time and I caught the last couple of games which was tough for Ian against Cathal who was also ill (and looked like you could really have done without playing). Ian won the game 3-1 but he definitely knew he’d been in a match.
The final match of the night was the return to team squash of Michael. He won 3-0 but he’d probably admit he wasn’t at his best and it takes a few matches to get back into team squash no matter what the level.
Food afterwards was at the squash club and a massive cottage pie that had been cooked by Cathal’s gran (or maybe gran-in-law) which was excellent. It was good to know that the future of the RI and the fundraising effort had made the news in Malton. We also discussed a Christmas party so watch this space.
