York RI 1 v Dunnington 5

Another win for York RI 1 Squash Team, making this 2 out of 2 wins for the start of our new 26/27 Season in the York & District Squash League in Dvision 4, having been promoted from Division 5 from last season.

However, this was a hard fought match, winning 3-2 in matches and importantly securing the additional 5 bonus points.

A great start by Perry, coming in at Number 5, to sweep away his opponent in a convincing 3 – 0 victory. Perry making his claim loudly on the court for a return to first team squash after a year’s long injury. Then both Richard and John fought hard at Numbers 4 and 3, albeit both coming away a little disappointed with a 3-1 loss each – and already looking towards reversing these scores in the home fixture. Mick had a great match in the battle of the ‘power hitters’ at Number 2. Despite losing the first game, Mick then dialled up the skill level to take the next three games to earn a very important 3-1 win. So, going into the fifth match decider, at 2 matches each, all the responsibility fell on George at Number 1. George played an impressive squash game, dominating the match against his opponent with a highly techincal display of squash, resulting in a comfortable 3-0 win.

The Dunnington team played with sportsmanship and a fun night was enjoyed by all. Lovely food and a great evening.

Early days in the season, however, three teams in Division 4 are now unbeaten in 8 matches between them, with York 6 leading the way on 57 points, Scarborough on 56 points and then RI 1 on 36 points and a agme in hand (v Wiggington 6 on Tuesday). We need a big team win away at Wiggington just to draw level with Scarborough. The pressure is on!
