In our last match before the Christmas break, our team delivered an impressive result, with a convincing 5-0 away win, scoring maximum 20 points against 3.
Ian, John and Jess each delivered a masterclass of excellent squash, all winning without loss of a game. Some superb drop shots from Ian and a strong, skillful and determined win by John to put ‘the demons of Scarborough match’ behind him. Jess a technically beautiful strong game.
Having lost my first game, I secured an enjoyable 3-1 win, once I had a bit of mid match coaching from Ian as to how to handle my opponents tricky return of service. However, the Man of the Match award has to go Nathan, who on his debut league match for York RI Squash, went 2 games behind and with great determination fought back to an impressive 3-2 victory.
This win secures us the maximum 20 points and second in the Division 5 League Table, at 112 points, with Scarborough 3 unbeaten in 7 matches leading with 126 points, and University Students 2 in third on 97 points.
Well done to all our team players who have contributed to our success so far and thanks for all the support from everyone at York RI Squash.
